The Balkan Wars: A Turkish National Disaster (1913)

February 27, 2014 at 6:00pm EST
Turkish Embassy, 2525 NW Massachusetts Ave., Washington DC
Speaker: Prof. Justin McCarthy, University of Louisville

The Balkan Wars of 1912-13 were the climax of the ethnic cleansing of the Turks of the Balkans. For a century, Turks had been evicted or killed when new Balkan states conquered Ottoman territory. They had been driven to what remained of Ottoman Europe, only to be displaced again when more of the Empire was taken. The Balkans Wars robbed them of their last refuge.
